The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), located in Malete, has approved the promotion of three staff members to the rank of professor and elevated 25 others to associate professor status. Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the acting Director of University Relations, announced the promotions in a statement issued on Friday in Ilorin.
These decisions were finalized during the Council’s 73rd meeting held on Thursday.
The newly appointed professors include Prof. Shehu Abdulganiyu Salau (specializing in Agricultural Production Economics), Prof. Moshood Zakariyah (expert in Sociolinguistics), and Prof. Gafar Olorisade (focused on Educational Administration), representing the faculties of Agriculture, Arts, and Education, respectively.
The promotions to associate professor cover various faculties, including Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Law, Management and Social Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences.From the Faculty of Agriculture, the promoted associate professors are Dr. Latifat Kehinde Olatinwo and Dr. Felicia Motunrayo Olooto, both specializing in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development; Dr. Olarinke Victoria Adeniyi, an expert in Aquaculture Management; Dr. James Adebayo Ojo, specializing in Entomology; and Dr. Akeem Olayemi Raji, who focuses on Food Processing Technology.In the Faculty of Arts, the promotions include Dr. Yahya Toyin Muritala (Modern Arabic Linguistics and Translation), Dr. Yunusa Muhammed Jamiu (Modern Arabic Literature), and Dr. Oluwatomi Oluwatayo Adeoti (Pragmatics and Discourse Studies). Additionally, Dr. Sherifat Hussain-Abubakar (Islamic Family Law and Gender Studies) and Dr. Khalid Ishola Bello (Islamic Economics) were also named as associate professors.
The Faculty of Engineering saw Dr. Olalekan Ogunbiyi (Power System and Automatic Control Engineering), Dr. Rasheed Amao Busari (Farm Power and Machinery), and Dr. Kamoru Olufemi Oladosu (Production and Renewable Energy) recognized for promotion.Dr. Usman Tunde Saadu from the Faculty of Education, specializing in Educational Psychology, and Dr. Ronke Seyi Babatunde from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, who focuses on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, were also promoted.
The Faculty of Law produced Dr. Olariyike Damola Akintoye and Dr. Abdullahi Saliu Ishola, specializing in Property and Business Law and Islamic Law, respectively, both confirmed as associate professors.
Moreover, the Council ratified the promotions of Dr. Abdullahi Alabi (Comparative Politics and Administration), Dr. Idris Danjuma Mohammed (Development Studies and Local Government Administration), and Dr. Ibrahim Ogirima Salawu (Public Policy and Governance) to the associate professor rank.
In the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Dr. Emmanuel Anyachukwu Irondi (Food and Nutritional Biochemistry), Dr. Abdulazeez Kayode Jimoh (Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics), Dr. Kazeem Issa (Numerical Analysis), Dr. Wasiu Akanni Yahya (Theoretical and Computational Physics), and Dr. Abiodun Obembe (Entomology) also received promotion recognition.
