The Samnu Police Department in southern Libya has apprehended three Nigerian nationals on charges of drug trafficking.A statement from Migrant Rescue Watch on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday revealed that the suspects were reportedly found with a significant amount of hashish, believed to be intended for sale.

The arrests occurred during a targeted operation in Samnu, located in the Murzuq district, an area well-known for smuggling and human trafficking due to its proximity to Libya’s southern borders.

This operation is part of broader security measures aimed at combating drug-related offenses and cross-border trafficking involving migrants.

The identities of the detainees have not yet been disclosed. Authorities confirmed that the case has been forwarded to public prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The statement read: “Samnu Police Dept. arrested 3 #migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking.

The trio were found in possession of a quantity of hashish earmarked for sale. The case was referred to public prosecution.
