The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a warning to the public regarding the false narrative that candidates are assigned to examination centres outside of their chosen towns.In a statement released to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, JAMB’s Spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, emphasized the Board’s commitment to providing candidates convenience by allowing them to take their exams at locations of their choice within available Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
Benjamin affirmed that each candidate has the right to select their examination town, and JAMB ensures that they are assigned to a centre within that town.
He stated, “We believe that some parents continue to fall victim to deception and fraud propagated by their children and certain secondary school proprietors promoting this misinformation.
He added, “Let it be clear: candidates can choose their preferred examination town at the time of registration, and JAMB will assign them to a centre within that town.
Claims suggesting that candidates are assigned to different towns are unfounded, malicious, and intended to damage the Board’s reputation.”To counter these baseless claims, JAMB has offered a substantial financial reward for anyone who can provide legitimate proof of a candidate being assigned outside their chosen town.
Benjamin urged that evidence be submitted within the next 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) at the WhatsApp number: 08056003030.
This process will involve an independent body verifying the evidence, delivering the reward if justified, or clearing JAMB of the ongoing misunderstandings.
He also noted, “Just as we expect air travelers to arrive at the airport two hours before departure, candidates should be encouraged to arrive at CBT centres 90 minutes early for necessary preliminary checks.
He pointed out that parents who assume candidates need only two hours for an exam of the same duration may not understand the required procedures.Benjamin appealed to the public to trust that agencies genuinely aim to serve the public’s interests, stating that JAMB remains dedicated to this commitment.
On a lighter note, he shared an incident involving a female UTME candidate who chose not to answer any questions during her exam, as she was following her grandfather’s advice to do nothing and wait for a miraculous solution.
He advised candidates to steer clear of superstitions and unrealistic expectations.
