The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release socialite and businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours. Justice Inyang Ekwo issued a brief ruling, directing all parties involved, particularly the EFCC, to report to the court on May 2 with updates on compliance with the court’s order. Earlier, the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reported that EFCC operatives arrived at the court with Achimugu on Wednesday, following the court’s directive.
Achimugu, flanked by two female EFCC officers, arrived at approximately 11:35 am.
This comes after Justice Ekwo’s order on Monday for Achimugu, an industrialist who allegedly fled the country, to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday at noon.
The judge had also instructed the EFCC to bring Achimugu to court upon her arrival at their office for a report. However, Achimugu was reportedly arrested upon her arrival abroad at around 5 am and has been held in custody since then.
