Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emphasized the vital role workers play in the growth and success of Nigeria.
In a statement commemorating the 2025 Workers’ Day on Thursday, he called on the Federal Government to recognize workers not merely as tools for economic progress but as essential partners in nation-building.Atiku stated, “The Nigerian worker remains the resilient engine propelling our nation toward the long-awaited promise of prosperity.
Despite ongoing hardships and inadequate pay, Nigerian workers continue to bear the burdens of our economic ambitions with quiet heroism.
It is deeply disheartening that those responsible for governance and policymaking have yet to respond to this unwavering dedication with meaningful support and justice.
He highlighted the importance of increased government accountability and described workers as the heart and strength of the nation, urging leaders to safeguard workers’ rights and well-being to foster a fairer society.
The labor force is the soul of our nation. It represents both the face and the force of the people. “Therefore, it is essential that governments and employers implement strong measures to protect the dignity, rights, and entitlements of every worker,” he stated.
Atiku also stressed the importance of collaboration, advising the government and employers to treat workers as equal partners in national development.
I encourage policymakers to draw inspiration from this year’s celebration theme and to engage with the labor force not as mere instruments but as equal partners in the pursuit of national greatness,” he concluded.
