The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the successful interception of a truck suspected of diverting refined iodised salt.
The operation also led to the arrest of two individuals.
In a press release issued on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, he explained that on April 30, 2025, around 5:00 p.m., officers from the Alkeleri Divisional Police Headquarters acted on credible intelligence and stopped a flat-topped truck trailer (registration number BAG 283 XF).
The vehicle was found carrying over 1,000 bags of iodised salt, each weighing 25 kilograms.
The estimated value of the confiscated salt is approximately ₦10,200,000. While the driver managed to escape, two suspects—Sadik Jidda, 20, from Borno State, and Ibrahim Ahmad, 19, from Kaduna State—were arrested inside the vehicle.
Initial investigations suggest that the suspects were acting as conductors, with information from the driver about their destination in Alkeleri, Bauchi State. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate the driver and gather further details about the incident.
In a related operation on the same day, the police arrested 28-year-old Jibrin Ali from Zinder, Niger Republic, in the Yankari Game Reserve, Alkeleri LGA. Jibrin was found impersonating military personnel and displaying suspicious behavior in an area known for bandit activity.
According to Wakil, detectives from Alkeleri Police Headquarters, with assistance from local security agencies, intervened during a routine patrol and faced some resistance when arresting Jibrin. His inability to explain his presence in the forest raised concerns about possible involvement with criminal groups.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the professionalism of the officers involved and has ordered that both cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to community safety and security, expressing appreciation for the support of local security forces in these efforts.
