The South East Caucus in Nigeria’s House of Representatives has called for the resignation of JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede over what they describe as a disastrous failure in administering the 2025 UTME.

The caucus criticized JAMB for technical issues that affected nearly 380,000 candidates, many from the South East, requiring them to resit the exam.

They condemned JAMB’s inadequate response, citing poor communication, scheduling conflicts with WAEC exams, and short notice for resit arrangements, which caused distress to students and families.

The lawmakers emphasized that while Oloyede admitted the failure, accountability should extend beyond apologies.

They demanded the cancellation of the current UTME, a new exam date after WAEC and NECO exams, and the suspension of officials responsible for digital operations and logistics.

They argued that Oloyede’s resignation would facilitate an independent review and help restore public trust. The caucus also highlighted that JAMB’s conduct violated its constitutional duty to provide equal educational opportunities for all Nigerian children, as mandated by Section 18(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

They criticized the short notice given to students, which hindered their preparation and caused clashes with ongoing exams, further disadvantaging candidates. Overall, they urged accountability and reforms to ensure such failures do not recur.
