Hosts Ogun State continue to dominate the ball games at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival, securing their places in the finals of six additional events on Monday, .Having already secured a spot against Kwara in the men’s football final scheduled for Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Team Ogun is also set to compete in the finals of men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and handball.Ogun State teams triumphed in their respective semi-final matches at the Alake Sports Complex on Monday, aiming to boost their medal tally.
In women’s basketball, Ogun narrowly defeated Lagos 45-44 to advance to the final. Despite Lagos leading most of the game, Monisola Tewogbade’s late three-pointer secured Ogun’s spot in the final, where they will face Bayelsa State, who defeated Ondo 62-28.
The men’s basketball team also advanced smoothly, beating Adamawa 71-66 in the semi-final.On the volleyball court, Ogun’s women’s team comfortably defeated Kogi 3-0 (25-8, 25-23, 25-19), setting up a final against Rivers State.
The two teams had previously met in the group stage, with Ogun edging out Rivers in a close rubber game. Rivers also advanced to the final after beating Oyo 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 27-25).In men’s volleyball, Ogun secured a 3-1 victory over Bayelsa State (25-16, 16-25, 25-16, 25-17), and will face Plateau State in the final after Plateau recovered from a first-half draw to beat Ondo 3-1 in their semi-final.In women’s handball, Ogun overcame Kogi 24-19 after a 10-10 first-half draw, earning a final spot against Sokoto, who defeated Edo 32-25.
The men’s handball final will see Ogun facing Lagos, following Ogun’s 29-25 victory over FCT.
