The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has expressed its condolences to the Niger State Government following the devastating flood that claimed numerous lives in Mokwa Local Government Area.In a statement issued on Friday and signed by NGF Chairman AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, the forum expressed shock at the scale of the disaster, which has resulted in significant loss of life and property in the community.
The NGF extended heartfelt sympathies to Governor Usman Bago, the government, and the people of Niger State for their losses.It is noteworthy that the flood has led to the death of at least 21 individuals and caused damages worth millions of Naira in Mokwa.AbdulRazaq, who is also the governor of Kwara State, stated, “The Nigeria Governors’ Forum stands in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State in the wake of the devastating flood that has caused widespread destruction in Mokwa town. We are deeply shocked by the extent of the flooding, which has resulted in loss of lives and property.
We sincerely sympathize with the affected families and offer our support to the state government during this difficult period.We also commend the Niger State Government’s interventions and its coordination with emergency responders to assist the disaster victims.
This flood serves as a stark reminder of the realities of climate change and its impact on our communities. As leaders, we remain committed to collaborating with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to not only help our people cope with these challenges but also to enhance preparedness, mitigation, and relief efforts.We pray for the repose of those who lost their lives and for the recovery of those injured.
