Three suspected kidnappers were killed during a shootout with operatives from the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) of the Delta State Police Command.
The police team, led by ASP Robinson Julius and deployed by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was conducting a covert patrol along Ughelli-Patani Road on Tuesday when they stopped a shuttle bus at Ewhereni Junction.Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire in an attempt to escape, resulting in a gun battle.
Three of the suspects were seriously injured and later died at the hospital, while others managed to escape.During the operation, the police recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 18 live rounds from the suspects.
In a separate operation, the CP-SAT team arrested individuals suspected of kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism, seizing firearms and ammunition. Notably, on May 24, they apprehended Ifeanyi Okolie, aka “BLACK JESUS,” who was wanted for robbing motorcycles and valuables in Asaba and surrounding areas.
He led police to a bush where three homemade guns, four live bullets, and a suspected stolen motorcycle were recovered. Three other suspects—Ogochukwu Emmanuel, Joseph Egwu, and Yakubu Yusuf—were also arrested in connection with the case.Additionally, police recovered a Beretta pistol from a suspect known as “NINO,” who remains at large.In a statement issued on Thursday, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda commended the CP-SAT team for their achievements. He stated, “These significant successes demonstrate the command’s resolute commitment to dismantling criminal networks and enhancing the safety and security of all residents across Delta State.
I commend the operatives for their exemplary professionalism and dedication in executing the recent operations.”The police continue their investigations and urge the public to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities through the police control numbers.
