The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide special patrol operation in preparation for the Eid el-Kabir celebrations scheduled for Friday.Running from June 5 to June 11, the initiative aims to enhance road safety and regulate traffic flow during the festive period.In a statement issued on Wednesday by Corps Spokesman Olusegun Ogungbemide, it was announced that over 36,000 personnel—including regular and special marshals—will be deployed across Nigeria.Supporting this operation will be 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and over 200 motorcycles.The statement highlighted, “In light of the declaration of Friday, June 6, 2025, as Eid el-Kabir in Nigeria, the FRSC has commenced a massive mobilization of personnel and operational equipment for the Sallah special patrol, aimed at ensuring a safer road environment before, during, and after the festivities.
The operational plan involves no fewer than 36,000 FRSC personnel, including regular and special marshals, along with 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and over 200 bikes, conducting operations from June 5 to June 11, 2025.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, revealed that the patrol is designed to facilitate smooth vehicular movement, enable quick rescue responses, and clear road obstructions promptly.
He emphasized the commitment to reducing road traffic crashes through effective patrols and public education. Mohammed directed commanding officers nationwide to ensure that the 52 key traffic corridors are properly manned throughout the operation.
He also called on motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules, cooperate with FRSC and other law enforcement agencies involved in traffic management, and be aware that mobile courts will be active across the country to swiftly handle traffic violations.
Additionally, the Corps Marshal highlighted specific areas of focus, including preventing wrongful overtaking, phone use while driving, license violations, lane discipline, removing unsafe vehicles, and driving with expired or worn-out tires without spares.Commanding officers have been instructed to ensure comprehensive coverage of major routes such as Akwanga-Lafiya-Makurdi, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, Sagamu-
Mowe-Lagos, and Jos-Bauchi-Gombe, among others.To bolster enforcement, officers will be equipped with radar guns and breathalyzers to monitor speed and deter drunk driving. Emergency response teams, known as Zebras, are on standby to handle any incidents swiftly.
The FRSC is collaborating with the military, Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence, Department of State Services, Federal Fire Service, and ambulance providers to ensure coordinated efforts. Mobile courts will also operate nationwide to address traffic violations.
The patrols will be carried out in shifts from morning to late evening, with night rescue units ready to respond.
The public is encouraged to use the FRSC’s National Traffic Radio (107.1 FM) and toll-free line 122 to report accidents, obstructions, or traffic congestion.
The Corps Marshal urged all road users to cooperate with enforcement officers and promote responsible driving during the festivities.
