Chief Olu Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of Nigeria and 1999 presidential candidate, claimed on Arise TV that he actually won the 1999 presidential election but was denied victory due to manipulated results.
He stated that his legal counsel, the late Chief J.O.K. Ajayi, verified he defeated Olusegun Obasanjo by over one million votes. Falae emphasized that he chose not to pursue court action to ensure peaceful democratic transition after years of military rule.
His revelation revisits Nigeria’s fragile transition to democracy and highlights ongoing concerns about election credibility, with Falae asserting that Nigeria has not had a truly credible election since 1993.
