Vice President Kashim Shettima yesterday inaugurated the Board of Directors of the newly established National Credit Guarantee Company Limited (NCGC Ltd), emphasizing that this move represents a bold step toward enhancing financial inclusion and invigorating the grassroots economy through improved access to credit.Speaking at the ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima highlighted that the creation of NCGC demonstrates the government’s commitment to bridging the long-standing financing gap that has hampered micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria.
The NCGC is our response to a persistent challenge that has stifled our economic potential for decades—access to finance.
These entrepreneurs are not asking for handouts; they seek the confidence of financial institutions to match the credibility of their ideas,” the Vice President stated. President Bola Tinubu had announced the establishment of the NCGC on May 29, 2025, alongside the appointment of its board and management team.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was appointed as the board chairman, while Mr. Bonaventure Okhaimo was named Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Describing the company as a vital driver for inclusive and sustainable economic growth, Shettima explained that NCGC would serve as a bridge between financial institutions and Nigeria’s dynamic MSME sector by providing guarantees necessary to unlock affordable credit opportunities.
