emen’s Houthi rebels claimed on Tuesday that they launched a missile toward Israel’s main international airport, a move the Israeli military said was successfully thwarted.

According to a video statement from Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the Iran-aligned group fired a “Palestine 2” hypersonic ballistic missile at Ben Gurion Airport in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that “a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force.”

Since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Houthis have consistently launched missiles and drones at Israeli targets. While most have been neutralized mid-air, they have triggered retaliatory Israeli strikes on Houthi-held positions in Yemen.

In addition, the group has targeted commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, accusing them of having ties to Israel. These actions have led to multiple waves of airstrikes by the United States and its allies.
