A fire on Thursday night at Gombe State University’s female hostel annexe, believed to have been caused by an unattended cooking gas explosion, resulted in panic among students and three hospitalizations for anxiety and smoke inhalation.

The incident, confirmed by the Federal Fire Service Gombe Command, highlighted safety concerns, especially since the university had recently lifted a ban on gas cylinders, previously restricted due to safety issues. Students criticized the inadequate fire response facilities on campus, while fire authorities urged the university to reinstate the gas cylinder ban to prevent future accidents and emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness among students and staff.
