Hanifa: Kano re-arraigns school proprietor
•Ganduje orders investigation into housewife’s killing

The Kano State government yesterday re-arraigned school proprietor Abdulmalik Tanko, 34, before a Kano High Court for the murder of five-year-old pupil, Hanifa Abubakar.
Tanko and two others, Hashimu Isyaku, 37, and Fatima Musa, 26, are facing a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, attempt to kidnap, abetment and kidnapping, among others.
The prosecutor, who is also the Attorney General of the state, Musa Abdullahi-Lawan, told the court that sometime in November 2021, the defendants conspired and kidnapped the five-year-old Hanifa while she was returning from school.
He alleged that Tanko, the proprietor of Nobel Kids Comprehensive College, Kano, on December 4, 2021, kidnapped and held Hanifa hostage in his house for days and killed her with poison.
“The second defendant Isyaku buried her in a shallow grave on the premises of Northwest Preparatory School situated at Kwanar Yan Ghana, Tudun Murtala, Kano. On Dec. 27, 2021, the third defendant Musa wrote a letter to the victim’s family, on behalf of Tanko, demanding the sum of six million Naira as ransom.”
Justice Usman Na’abba ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional facility and adjourned the matter until March 2 and 3 for hearing.
Also, 24-year-old housewife, Rukkaya Mustapha was murdered in the state at the weekend. The killers also beat her two toddler children to a coma, it was said.
One of the children is three years old, the other one and a half.
Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered an investigation into the killing.
