The leadership crisis within the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (AMORAN) of Ogun State has escalated as Otunba Nurudeen Aina, also known as Alowonle, asserted on Saturday that he did not resign from his position as Chairman. In an interview with The Daily Crucible, Alowonle claimed that his signature was forged to create a resignation letter that he did not authorize.
He clarified that he only submitted a request for a leave of absence for a duration of four months in order to pursue a political ambition in the upcoming 2024 elections, coinciding with the last local government election in Ogun State.
Alowonle further emphasized that he had been duly elected, served one term honorably, and received overwhelming support to secure a second term. Rejecting any notion of resignation, he expressed his grievances by announcing that he has taken legal action at the Ibadan Division of the National Industrial Court.In his lawsuit, Alowonle accused his Personal Assistant, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya—also known as Danku—of usurping his position and unlawfully declaring himself the substantive Chairman.
The lawsuit includes several defendants: Sokoya, the Incorporated Trustees of AMORAN, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ogun State, the Governor of Ogun State, and the Commissioner for Transport.
The leadership crisis, according to Alowonle, started when he formally applied for a leave of absence from August 5, 2024, to December 4, 2024, to contest for the chairmanship of the Sagamu Local Government.
He alleged that during his absence, Taofeek Sokoya took the opportunity to illegitimately position himself as the association’s chairman.As part of his legal action, Otunba Nurudeen Aina is seeking a court order declaring that Taofeek Sokoya is not qualified to assume the role of Acting Chairman in his absence, stating that Sokoya was merely his personal assistant. Alowonle is also requesting the court to annul Sokoya’s swearing-in as Chairman of AMORAN.
He contends that there was no vacancy at the time Sokoya was sworn in, which contravenes Section 16(a) & (b) of the association’s provisions. Furthermore, he seeks a declaratory order preventing Sokoya from presenting himself as the Chairman of the Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association in Ogun State.As of now, no hearing date has been set by the National Industrial Court, Ibadan Division, to address the matter.
