Shema’u Isma’il, a middle-aged woman, has brought a case against her neighbors—Halima Umar, Aisha Umar, and Bilkisu Umar—before a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, for allegedly defaming her by calling her a prostitute.
She claims they made hurtful comments about her living situation, emphasizing that she is married yet lives alone.
She also accused the defendants of harassing her nine-year-old son, scaring and physically harming him while he plays outdoors.
In court, Shema’u expressed frustration over prior attempts to resolve the matter amicably, pleading for the court’s intervention for justice.
Halima, the mother of Aisha and Bilkisu, denied the accusations, asserting that Shema’u first insulted her children by calling them prostitutes, and that the children involved are all underage.
The judge, Kabir Muhammad, asked if the defendants had witnesses, to which they responded positively.
The case has been referred to the police for further investigation, with the next hearing scheduled for March 26.
