Just two days before the Easter celebration, tragedy struck in Osun State on Saturday when five individuals lost their lives in a devastating accident on the Ife-Ilesa expressway.
An eyewitness reported that the crash occurred around 10:15 am in the Dusbin area, involving a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck with the license plate Lagos FKJ 691 HZ and a Mark trailer. Due to the severity of the impact, the trailer’s number plate could not be identified.
The accident was reportedly caused by a violation of traffic rules.In a statement to the press, Mr. Taofeek Adeyemi Sokunbi, the Osun State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), urged road users to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid excessive speeding.
He noted that the victims included three adult males, one adult female, and one young girl.
The sole injured survivor was transported to Mayowa Hospital in Ipetumodu.
Items recovered from the scene included a small bag containing jewelry, clothing, and a total of five hundred eight thousand nine hundred naira (#508,900).
These items were handed over to the victims’ family members in the presence of a police officer.
The injured victim was taken to Mayowa Hospital in Ipetumodu, while the deceased were transported to the mortuary at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC),” the statement added.
The Nigerian Police Force has taken custody of the damaged vehicles.
