BREAKING NEWS:The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will no longer serve as a mandatory prerequisite for gaining admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.Under the new policy, universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education will now have the autonomy to conduct their own admission processes based primarily on candidates’ Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results or equivalent qualifications.
This means that institutions can now set their own admission criteria — such as internal screening tests, interviews, or other approved assessments — without requiring applicants to sit for the JAMB examination.
According to the Ministry, the decision is part of ongoing reforms aimed at decentralizing the admission process, reducing financial burdens on students, and ensuring greater flexibility and fairness in how tertiary institutions select candidates.
Further guidelines on how institutions will implement the new admission model are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
