A 200-level Computer Engineering student at Olabisi Onabanjo University has launched a student-driven technology conference aimed at steering undergraduates towards innovation and away from cybercrime.Ademuwagun Mayokun Precious, the convener of the OOU Future Tech Conference, explained that the initiative seeks to position Ogun State as an emerging hub for digital entrepreneurship while promoting ethical engagement in the tech space.
In collaboration with Usman Joseph, a student entrepreneur and Assistant General Secretary of the Computer Students Association at OOU, the project aims to provide structured mentorship in areas such as Web 2 development, Artificial Intelligence, Web 3 innovations, and digital content creation.Organizers stated that the conference will serve as a foundation for a long-term vision to establish a Technology and Innovation Investors Hub within the university.
This proposed hub intends to connect student innovators with investors, mentors, and industry leaders to facilitate funding and support for promising start-ups, helping them grow into sustainable ventures.
The event plans to feature industry leaders including Douglas Kendyson, CEO of Selar; the African CEO of Auqli; the CEO of Pricepally; and the founder of PXXL Space, a 19-year-old entrepreneur.
In addition to keynote speeches and panel discussions, the conference will offer hands-on training in animation, online publishing, and content monetisation at subsidised rates.
A dedicated Frontend Web Development training program is also scheduled to equip students from various disciplines with employable digital skills.
Organizers are also considering holding an investors’ forum in November or December to provide a platform for stakeholders to evaluate and support student-led start-ups focused on education, commerce, and community development.
Drawing inspiration from Nigeria’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem highlighting successful ventures like Paystack, founded by alumni of Babcock University—the initiative aims to channel student energy into meaningful innovation, foster entrepreneurship, and contribute to Ogun State’s digital-driven growth.
