The Ogun State Police Command is currently screening the 146 suspects arrested during a coordinated multi-agency raid targeting criminal hideouts in Sagamu.
The purpose of this screening is to determine each suspect’s level of involvement in the alleged crimes for which they were apprehended.Babaseyi Oluseyi, the Public Relations Officer of the command, disclosed this information in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He explained that the arrests followed credible intelligence indicating that some suspected criminals were planning to pose a threat to public safety.In response to this intelligence, a special operation was launched in collaboration with various security agencies and community leaders. Oluseyi stated, “Operatives of the Sagamu Area Command of the Ogun State Police, working closely with community stakeholders and sister security agencies, successfully arrested 146 suspects during a coordinated, intelligence-led raid operation dubbed ‘Operation Keep Sagamu Safe’.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to prevent crime and tackle emerging security threats within Sagamu and its surrounding areas.
He further revealed that the operation was carried out in the early hours of April 13, 2026, targeting specific flashpoints in Sagamu identified as hotspots for criminal activities.
The operation aimed to prevent law and order from breaking down and to promote public safety.
It was executed by personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, illustrating a unified and proactive security strategy.Oluseyi emphasized that the suspects are currently undergoing screening to establish their individual culpability.
Those found guilty will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The Police Commissioner, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, discipline, and coordination among all participating security agencies and assured residents of Ogun State of the police command’s unwavering commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing and ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security.

Sagamu has a history of criminal activity, notably cultism. In September 2023, Punch Metro reported that police arrested at least 19 individuals suspected of belonging to different cult groups.
These arrests were made at various locations within Sagamu and were linked to cult clashes that resulted in the death of eight persons.
The police indicated that the suspects were apprehended through joint efforts across multiple police formations in the area.
