A teacher abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oyo State, identified as Michael Oyedokun, has been killed by his captors, deepening fears over the fate of others still in captivity.
A disturbing video reportedly released by the kidnappers surfaced on Sunday, showing the victim tied up and forced to speak before he was killed.
The incident has sparked grief and outrage across the community, with renewed calls for urgent intervention by security agencies and the state government.Confirming the development, Governor Seyi Makinde, through his media aide Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, expressed condolences to the deceased teacher’s family and pledged that efforts to rescue the remaining victims would continue through both security operations and negotiations.
The governor also disclosed that six suspects linked to the abduction have been arrested. According to him, some of those detained are believed to have acted as informants and logistics coordinators for the kidnappers.
He further sympathised with families of security operatives, including personnel from the Amotekun Corps, soldiers and local vigilantes, who died during the rescue mission after encountering improvised explosive devices allegedly planted by the abductors.
Makinde assured residents that injured security personnel were receiving treatment and promised that the government would spare no effort in ensuring the safe return of the remaining hostages.
The attack occurred on May 15 when armed men stormed the school and abducted the principal, several teachers and students, raising fresh concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of the state.
