The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has pledged to bring those responsible for the villagers’ deaths in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, to justice.
This commitment was made in a statement issued on Monday through the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja.
The statement also expressed condolences from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, to the families of the victims and to the government of Kwara State.
The DHQ emphasized that the military is collaborating with other security agencies to foster an environment where every Nigerian can live without fear or insecurity.
According to the statement, following a presidential directive, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), together with the Army Headquarters (AHQ) and other military services, has launched Operation Savannah Shield to carry out intensive operations in Kwara and Niger States, targeting the eradication of persistent terrorist enclaves in the region.

He explained that this operation, which evolved from Operation FANSAN YAMMA, is aimed at strengthening security efforts in the area.
“On this note, the Chief of Defence Staff extends his condolences and sympathies to the Government of Kwara State and the families of those affected by the killings in Woro and Nuku villages in Kaiama LGA of Kwara State on February 4, 2026.
The statement reaffirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will collaborate closely with other security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Regarding recent military activities, the DHQ provided a weekly update: troops in the North East neutralized over 50 terrorists, rescued 82 kidnapped hostages, and arrested 13 suspected terrorists.
In the North West, troops arrested 19 suspected terrorists and rescued 23 hostages.
In the North Central, 32 suspects were apprehended, and 22 kidnapped victims were rescued.
Additionally, in the South South, troops arrested nine suspected oil thieves and 24 other criminals, while rescuing one kidnapped victim.
