Tragedy struck in Ibadan on Wednesday when a petrol tanker explosion claimed the life of its driver. The motor boy, however, narrowly escaped death and is currently receiving medical attention at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the vehicle at the Agbowo end of the Iwo road/Ojoo expressway, causing a multiple-vehicle accident. The impact of the crash led to a massive explosion, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
An eyewitness described the scene as chaotic, with a deafening noise that was initially mistaken for a bomb explosion. “It was a horrific sight,” the witness said. “Residents in the area quickly alerted the fire department to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes.”
The prompt response of the fire services helped contain the blaze, preventing further damage and potential loss of life. The incident has left the community in shock, and an investigation is likely to be launched to determine the cause of the accident.
