Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has implemented a restriction on vehicular movement from 5 am to 5 pm this Saturday in light of the upcoming local government elections.
A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Friday, noted that security agencies have been directed to enforce this restriction.Governor Adeleke emphasized that only voters, as well as accredited media personnel and civil society organizations, will be permitted to move around, in order to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
The statement specified, “Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered a restriction of vehicular movement from 5 am to 5 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2022, across Osun State.
This measure has been taken in preparation for the local government elections scheduled for tomorrow.”He reiterated his commitment to ensuring safety during the elections, stating that the movement restriction aims to prevent any disruption from outside elements during this critical period.In light of recent tensions between the APC and PDP regarding the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss APC local government officials, tensions have been notably high.
The PDP argued that the February 10 ruling did not reinstate the dismissed APC leaders from the 2022 elections, while the APC contended their right to return to office. Conflict over control of local government secretariats has led to violence, with police confirming the deaths of six individuals and several others injured amidst the unrest.
