The Ogun State Police Command has initiated an investigation following an explosion at Quantum Steel, situated along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogijo, which left seven workers injured, including three expatriates.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday, was reported to the Ogijo Police Division by a company employee named Joseph Adewale.Among the injured are four Nigerian nationals—Daniel Bala, 28; Mutiu Olajide, 39; Godwin Solomon, 27; and Maduabuchi Onwe, 27—as well as three expatriates: Ajun Kumar, 37; Chandan Kumar, 50; and Rakash Kumar, 30.Omolola Odutola, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, attributing the explosion to machinery failure.
The statement detailed, “On March 2, 2025, at approximately 6:30 pm, an explosion from one of the factory’s machines caused severe injuries to seven individuals, comprising both Nigerian and expatriate workers.
All the injured parties were transported to Rolayo Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos, where they are currently receiving treatment and are reportedly responding well.Odutola noted that detectives had visited the site, conducted an initial assessment, and collected evidence, including photographs.
She emphasized that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the cause of the explosion and ensure adherence to industrial safety regulations.
The police command has also called on companies and industries to prioritize workplace safety to avert similar occurrences in the future.
