Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has protested her suspension from the Senate, describing it as a breach of natural justice, fairness, and equity. She asserts that her suspension does not diminish her legitimacy as a senator. In a recent warning, the Senate stated that during her suspension, she is prohibited from presenting herself to the public, both nationally and internationally, as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Nonetheless, in a statement posted on her Facebook page on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to serving her constituents under the title of “Senator.” She stated, “In defiance of a culture that promotes silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate undermines the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.

This unlawful suspension does not detract from my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I will continue to fulfill my responsibilities to my constituents and the country to the best of my ability until 2027 … and beyond.
The Senate has imposed a six-month suspension on Akpoti-Uduaghan without pay, citing a violation of its Standing Orders related to her allegations of sexual harassment, which Senator Godswill Akpabio has denied.
