Political tensions in Rivers State escalate as calls for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara intensify.
Former Governor Nyesom Wike stated that the impeachment would not incite chaos, emphasizing lawmakers’ right to act against Fubara for alleged constitutional breaches, including withholding salaries.
Fubara, barred from presenting the 2025 budget at the Assembly, expressed readiness to return when invited, while opposition lawmakers pledged to resist impeachment efforts. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Tony Okocha, insists Fubara must resign or face impeachment.
The Ijaw Youth Council condemned the moves against Fubara and warned of serious repercussions if efforts to destabilize his government continue.
