The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has partnered with Huawei Technologies to implement four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) sites aimed at monitoring speeding and managing traffic.
Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced the news during a press briefing, highlighting that these new installations will enhance existing traffic management technologies, such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras.
The checkpoint sites focus on detecting speeding: one is located on Alapere, Ogudu Road with a speed limit of 80 km/h, and another at Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way with a limit of 60 km/h. In addition, two e-police sites—one at Allen Avenue Junction and another at Nurudeen Olowopopo Road—will monitor various traffic violations, including running red lights and illegal maneuvers.
Motorists can expect fines of N20,000 for red light violations and N50,000 for speeding, with enforcement starting immediately.
The system aims not to punish but to foster responsible driving habits and improve road safety, ultimately aiming to save lives and protect property.
