Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, a leading candidate for the All Progressives Congress, has announced his withdrawal from the ongoing party primaries taking place at the Women Development Centre in Awka on Saturday. Okonkwo’s decision comes after fellow aspirants Chukwuma Umeoji and Paul Chukwuma also withdrew from the race. Following his exit, four candidates remain in the contest for the party’s gubernatorial ticket: Nicholas Ukachukwu, Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu.
In his resignation letter, titled “Withdrawal from All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial Primary Election” and dated April 5, Okonkwo expressed his thoughts directly to his supporters and the people of Anambra State.
Dear supporters and fellow Anambrarians, After careful consideration of the current situation within the All Progressives Congress primary election process in Anambra State, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw my ambition for the party’s governorship ticket.
This choice was not made lightly but is necessary due to various developments that conflict with my principles and values. I believe the risks posed to my supporters, among other reasons, are not worth undertaking.
My commitment to public service remains unwavering, and I will continue to work towards the socio-economic and political advancement of Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.
I am also dedicated to supporting the realization of President Bola Tinubu’s development initiatives and fostering economic growth for the benefit of our citizens.I am deeply appreciative of the trust and support I have received from my political colleagues, supporters, and stakeholders, both within the APC and beyond.
Your faith in me has been invaluable, and I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many dedicated and passionate Anambrarians.Above all, I hope for a prosperous future for Anambra and its upcoming generations.
