Two fuel tankers caught fire in Oyo State along the Ibadan-Ile-Ife Expressway on Wednesday morning, around 9 a.m.
The incident took place near Current Foam.
The fire originated when a trailer tanker, loaded with 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control while in motion, veered off the road, fell into a ditch, and ignited. Unfortunately, another tanker caught fire during this incident.Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the occurrence in a statement released on Thursday.
He reported that the fire incident was logged at 09:29 on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.Akinyinka stated that firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Service (ACFS) Adesina Olusoji, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found both tankers in flames and took swift action to control the fire.
He acknowledged the invaluable support of security agencies in providing cover during the firefighting efforts.
