Operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, apprehended three individuals for the vandalism of water pipes owned by the Osun State Water Corporation.
In a statement released on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, the state Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, reported that the suspects—Michael Odeniran, 43, Ganiyu Mutiu Olalekan, 32, and Muritala Ridwan, 32—were taken into custody on April 10, 2025, around 11:00 AM at the Oloki Reservoir Site near Akoda, along the Gbongan-Osogbo road.Sotiyo explained that an investigation uncovered that the suspects, who work as laterite miners, had damaged a 450mm pipe during their mining activities.
They were later brought before a Magistrate Court in Ede on April 24, 2025, where they pleaded not guilty and were subsequently remanded to the Ife Correctional Centre.Commandant Sotiyo cautioned against the vandalism of government infrastructure, emphasizing that offenders will face legal repercussions.
The NSCDC is dedicated to safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure; those who infringe upon these responsibilities will be prosecuted,” he asserted.
