Super Eagles forward Akor Adams revealed that his mother was hospitalized prior to Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round-of-16 match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to PUNCH Online.

Adams scored his first goal of the tournament in the 70th minute, capping Nigeria’s dominant performance against Mozambique. He also provided the assist for Ademola Lookman’s opening goal and contributed to Nigeria’s second, finished by Victor Osimhen.

In the mixed zone after the game, Adams dedicated his goal to his mother, who was supposed to be at the stadium to watch the match. He expressed gratitude to God for his first AFCON goal and shared that his mother, currently in the hospital, was feeling much better.

“Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum,” Adams told journalists. “She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

The goal brings Adams’ total for Nigeria to three goals and three assists in eight appearances. He previously made his Super Eagles debut in October 2025 during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scoring in Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Lesotho.
