Detectives from the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Chidi Ebere, 27, in connection with the murder of a motorcycle rider.
The victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, was killed in Igbesa on Wednesday around 7 a.m.
According to reports, the suspect initially posed as a passenger before attempting to hijack the motorcycle, which led to a violent struggle. During the altercation, he stabbed the motorcyclist to death.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, disclosed this information in a statement sent to journalists on Thursday. He explained, “The incident happened on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at about 7 a.m. The suspect boarded the motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, aged 36, and launched an attack to seize the bike, resulting in a fierce fight. A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to respond swiftly. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by the medical staff.”
He added that the suspect was immediately arrested, and the motorcycle along with the knife used in the attack were recovered as evidence. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
The Ogun State Police Commissioner, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the heinous act and assured the public that justice would be served. He also urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
