Candidates and Parents Left Stranded at Lagos CBT Centre During Mock Examination
On Thursday, several candidates and their parents found themselves stranded for hours at the CMS Grammar School CBT Centre in Bariga, Lagos, amidst the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock exam organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Candidates were instructed to arrive at the centre by 6:30 a.m., but many were left waiting without any communication or coordination from the officials.
This situation led to significant frustration and confusion among both students and their guardians.One parent expressed their discontent, stating, “The kids were asked to report at the centre by 6:30 a.m. It is now 3 p.m., and nothing has happened.”JAMB had introduced the mock exam as a preparatory test to help candidates become familiar with the Computer-Based Test environment ahead of the official UTME. However, the process took a chaotic turn at the Lagos centre, with parents voicing their complaints about the poor management and lack of updates.
The issue is the complete absence of communication from the officials. We have been stranded for hours, and our children are inside without supervision.
This exam should only take 1 to 2 hours, yet some of us have been here since 5 a.m. and it’s already past 2 p.m. with no progress,” lamented another parent.Despite earlier assurances from JAMB that over 200,000 candidates were registered for the 2025 mock exam scheduled for April 10 across accredited CBT centres in the country, many candidates at the CMS Grammar School centre experienced delays of up to eight hours.
Reports indicated that candidates were suffering from fatigue, hunger, and a lack of direction throughout the ordeal.In separate news, JAMB revealed that it has allocated ₦397,030,900 in transport allowances to 1,909 officials involved in the 2025 mock examination.
This information was disclosed by the board’s Director of Finance, Mr. Mufutau Bello, during a recent assessment meeting in Abuja regarding JAMB’s readiness for the exams.Additionally, JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced the creation of a decoy website designed to catch candidates attempting to cheat in the 2025 UTME mock exam.
He mentioned that around 180 candidates have already fallen for this trap, reiterating that genuine studying remains the best path to success in the UTME.
The situation highlights ongoing challenges in the examination process, underscoring the need for improved management and communication from examination officials.
