The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured that no candidate will be required to take the board’s examination outside their state of registration.Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, provided this reassurance in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.He explained that some candidates for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were assigned to nearby mock centres outside their state of registration and residence due to limited availability.
He noted that not all Computer Based Test (CBT) centres could accommodate the mock examination, although all registered centres will be accessible for the main exam.“For example, if the mock centres in Abuja reach full capacity, candidates might be directed to available centres in nearby Nasarawa State,” Benjamin said. However, he emphasized that such occurrences are unlikely for the main examination, which will feature more centres, ensuring candidates remain within their state of residence.Benjamin also mentioned that early registration for the UTME plays a significant role in determining the proximity of a candidate’s examination centre.
If a closer centre is already full, candidates may be assigned to any available centre within the state.In a previous statement on Sunday, Benjamin acknowledged the delays and challenges faced by some candidates during the examination and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
He indicated that these issues were expected due to the new features introduced to improve the conduct of the main UTME.“
mock examination serves as a trial run for the UTME, allowing the board to test new innovations while helping candidates become more familiar with the CBT environment,” he explained.
This initiative has consistently met its objectives, addressing identified gaps and providing candidates with valuable experience for the main examination.”JAMB encourages all candidates to continue making necessary efforts to ensure a smoother examination experience that effectively meets their needs. The 2025 UTME is set to commence on April 25.
