The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mandated the immediate detention of officers accused of extorting ₦5.2 million from a traveler, following an order from Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed that the directive comes after the incident, which went viral on social media, involving officers allegedly extracting the money from a young man traveling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure.
Commandant General Ahmed Audi condemned their actions as unprofessional and in violation of the Corps’ ethical standards, and has instructed that the officers be taken to the national headquarters in Abuja for detention while a disciplinary committee investigates.
Audi emphasized the Corps’ commitment to accountability, promising strict sanctions for any officers found guilty after the inquiry, and encouraged public collaboration to report misconduct without fear.
